Federal Hill Preparatory School (PREP) is a Baltimore City Public Pre-K to 5th grade elementary school. Located in the heart of Federal Hill, PREP is an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) candidate school, encouraging both personal and academic achievement, and challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development.
PREP offers a variety of extracurricular and enrichment opportunities for students and families. From debate and robotics to theater and yoga, experience and learning at PREP extends beyond the classroom.
Discover why Federal Hill Prep is one of Baltimore City’s top-performing public elementary schools!
South Baltimore's only public elementary school catering exclusively to little ones (Pre-K through 5th grade).
1 of only 17 state schools to qualify for the 2018 Maryland Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) Schools award
PREP is a Gifted and Advanced Learning (GAL) site and received the Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) Award in 2019 from the Maryland State Department of Education. This certification is renewed every five years, so a Renewal Portfolio will be submitted in the Fall of 2023. PREP’s GAL Program Plan, updated January 2023, may be viewed here.
Planning for your child's next steps after elementary school can be daunting. PREP works closely with families and students to help them prepare for and excel in the middle school that’s right for them. PREP provides information sessions and tools throughout the year to guide families through the process of middle school choice. Here are the latest tools for families who are ready to start planning:
The IBPYP is an international curriculum framework designed for children between the ages of 3 and 12 years. This program is based on the latest educational research and believes that each child has their own personality, learning style and combination of intelligence types. Opportunity is given, within a structured framework, for students to explore their own interests and questions.
With our partner, All Lives United (ALU), PREP offers fee-based drop-in morning care beginning at 7:00am and after care until 6”30pm. ALU’s after-school enrichment programs include Zumba, youga, chess, STEM, and more.
Along with more than 10,000 elementary schools across the United States, PREP students are teeing off (some for the first time) thanks to The First Tee National School Program. This program curriculum is integrated into PREP's physical education class.
PREP’s Spring Production takes place every June at the school auditorium. Under direction from PREP’s art and music departments, students are involved in every aspect of the production, from cast costumes to lights and sound and even marketing and ticket sales.
PREP’s Green Club is passionate about saving our planet! With the support of PREP staff, parent volunteers, and the PTO Greens & Grounds committee, the Green Club participates in a variety of year-round school and community beautification projects, educational field trips, and student activism.
Science Night at PREP encourages students and parents to engage with science and technology through hands-on activities and experiments. Each year, Science Night features a different theme and numerous activities for students to explore and learn.
The Arts Integration Committee at PREP is a team of staff members and invested community members who work together to provide exposure and opportunities in the arts for PREP students. Through fundraising efforts, donations and grants we bring in visiting artists, assist in field trip costs, and help teachers ensure they are integrating arts into their daily lessons.
