Do the students wear uniforms?

Yes, PREP is a uniform school. Students wear khaki bottoms and navy tops. Students should wear enclosed athletic shoes.

What are the school hours?

For the 2022-23 school year, the school hours are 8:45am – 3:25pm. Students are marked late after 9:00am. Students arriving for breakfast may enter the cafeteria starting at 8:25am.

Do students get recess?

Yes, we feel that recess is an important component of the school day. Grades Pre-K through 5th have structured recess daily for 20 minutes. Students have outside recess unless the temperature is 32 degrees or below and/or there is precipitation. In the event that recess can’t be held outdoors, we use the gym.

Is there a before- and after-school provider?

PREP partners with All Lives United (ALU) to provide both before- and after-school care. The PTO also sponsors after-school classes. These classes run for 10 weeks at a time. See program section for more information.

How do we know if schools are closing for weather-related incidents?

PREP follows the Baltimore City Public Schools schedule for school closings. Information can be found on the City Schools website or by listening to the local news.

Are breakfast and lunch offered at the school?

The school provides free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of income level. The school lunch menu can be found on the City Schools website.

What is the average class size?

PREP’s average class size is 22-24 students.

Do students have access to technology?

Students are assigned a personal laptop to support their access to daily instruction, online learning applications, and testing. Click here to learn more about receiving, returning, or replacing a laptop.

How do the arts fit into the curriculum?

PREP is an arts integration school. Arts integration is an approach to teaching that integrates the fine and performing arts as primary pathways to learning. Arts integration differs from traditional education by its inclusion of both the arts discipline and a traditional subject as part of learning. The goal of arts integration is to increase knowledge of a general subject area while concurrently fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine and performing arts. Students also receive visual art and music instruction.

how long is lunch/recess?

Students’ lunch periods are 45 minutes, with 20 minutes allocated for recess.

what are the school’s Entry procedures?

Students enter through the front doors at 8:45am (unless they receive bus service). Parents are to drop and go; the 3-year-olds and Kindergarten students will have teachers in the lobby to receive them. Pre-K students should be dropped off at the Pre-K door on the playground between 8:45 and 9:00am. After 9:00am students are considered late and need to be signed in prior to going to class. Any visitor to the building must sign in at the main office. No parent is to remain in classrooms past 9:00am without a previously scheduled appointment.
